Last week I told you I would share a handful of pillars about emotional intelligence. I shared my thoughts about self knowledge, self regulation, and self motivation. This week I’ll tell you about these two; empathy and social skills.

Empathy is the ability to understand other people’s emotions and their make up. Strengthening this provides the benefit of gaining a greater skill for attracting and retaining connections and associates in our sphere, the ability to develop the things we want with others and an increase in sensitivity to people’s differences and the significance of those differences.

Social skills are skills of building rapport with others and moving them in desired directions. Strengthening this provides the benefit of greater effectiveness in leading or manifesting change, persuasiveness, greater networking ability and deepened expertise in building, participating and/or leading teams. And social skills is just a fancy way of saying how do you manage connecting with others and managing healthy relationships. I love this skill and use it to manipulate others so I can get what I want. Because… it’s all about me.

We create, deepen and understand these by systematically examining our thoughts, choices, and actions and then retrain what’s needed to update our operating system (your brain) to optimize things. This leverages the likeliness of us creating and getting what we want.

Thanks for your time. Have a great weekend.
