Most of us conjure up a particular image when we hear the term “alpha male”. Yeah, go ahead, take a second and think about that. I don’t imagine that the overall image and the type of person you’ve thought of is someone who you’d call a hero for the people but maybe…

In the past, when I’ve thought of an alpha male it was a person willing to sacrifice nearly anything to get something. (Alpha male being the non neutral commonly known term but the persona is welcome to all genders.) At the core, it’s great for a person to sacrifice. Sacrifice being an amazing and trainable need to accomplish most anything in life. And a person who’s willing to sacrifice anything is someone who can harness some power.

This is where things get a tad tricky. How that power sought after and then how it is used can be tempered with strong character or it can just be another means (or primary means) to being significant, and using that significance to get our needs met. Nothing wrong with that but it causes us to gain through persona and not necessarily with character.

I could go on and on about that framework but I’d like to introduce a new way of being a true alpha. I like to perform at high levels. Many people in my life are the same way. We want to be the best. I’ve learned that rather than being “the” best I just want to be the best version of me. I’m a unique snowflake, you know?

There are certainly obvious limitations that are relative to all of us, but that being put aside since I don’t like bullshit excuses, finding out what each of our best is will be, and should be, a grueling adventure. I like this saying, “For a person who does hard things, what is hard for you?”. Again, this is relative so it’s up to you to take an honest look at your life and look at where you’re coasting or where you’re stretching.

Here’ what I believe to be a more conclusive group of the areas in our live that should be operating at a high level to feel like you’re at alpha status.

If I’m being honest with myself my goal is to operate at an 8 to 10 on a 1 to 10 scale for each of those to feel like my shit is in one sock.

The opportunity:

Rate yourself on a scale of 1-10 with how you are in each of those areas. (Add other areas that I’ve left out.)

Which one of those do you need to quit focusing on because it’s already sorted out?

What one of those is the gaping hole in your life?

How do you plan to bring up that lagging area?

Thanks for your time, have a great day!
