A thing I do in my work often is help people understand themselves at deeper and deeper levels and I especially help them interpret how that self knowledge relates to their connection with others; whether that’s intimately, familial, business, or up and down some hierarchy in an organization.

One important factor to successful connections, of any type, is your ability to communicate well. Right?! How else are you going to convey what you want or don’t want, to give praise, or provide feedback? You’ve got to be able to clearly convey what you’re intending to. Communication is not just the words that come out of your mouth but all of the nonverbal cues that make up the majority of communication.(~93%)

These five are most of the nonverbal ways we convey things;

Facial expressions
Gestures
Posture or body language
Tone of voice
Eye contact

Myself and nearly all the people I work with can use a routine review and assessment of how these nonverbal facets are transmitting things that we’re completely unaware of. I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, “Calm is contagious.” Most of the things we’re experiencing inside ourselves is also contagious. This is why we need to understand what we’re feeling, how it’s being transmitted, and then take responsibility for what state of being we’re living in. That’s where the real work is. Figure out your inner shit and how it’s leaking out and having negative impacts on your connections.

Our non verbal communications can put people at ease, they can build trust, and draw others towards you or they can offend, confuse, and undermine what you’re trying to convey. By working to continually improve how you understand yourself and use nonverbal communication, you can express what you truly mean to, connect better with others, and build stronger, more rewarding relationships.

Who’re the people in your life that would benefit from this the most?

Thanks for your time. Have a great day.
