Our world/reality is made up of all our imprinting throughout our lives. All of our cultural differences, socializing, church/religious institutionalization, schooling, sporting experiences and so on and so on. Our world is naturally confined to all of those things.

Another commonality we share as humans is an aversion to risk and change. This is natural and we’re hard wired to avoid danger. It’s probably a good thing to keep ourselves safe?!? Or is it? I quote Muhammad Ali saying,”He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life.”

My take on that quote is that we must go beyond our current scope or sphere. Outside our reality and place where we think we know all there is to know is our ability to expand and broaden our capacity as humans. It is uncomfortable. It is abnormal and requires the consideration of others’ reality and lifetime of experiences.

Three common ways that we can expand our reality are; reading, traveling to places where there are vast cultural differences and to associate with people and consider their world and life.

That’s why self help is a farce and deepening our sense of self requires the risk of connection with something/someone outside ourselves.
